Party Like A Bear-Varian with award winning Hofmeister Bear.

Remember “Follow the Bear”? Probably not, if you were born in the 90’s (or after). Let me explain: “Follow the Bear” was a memorable slogan in an advertisement for ‘Hofmeister’ back in the 80’s when the Lager was really big and popular in the UK.

Wanna catch up?  Here is the link (It’s definitely worth watching):

So, after watching it, what do you think?

Let me tell you something else: The ‘Hofmeister’ back then wasn’t exactly great. It was brewed in the UK, like all the other beers and only used the Bavarian bear to make out the beer was Bavarian. ‘Heineken’ bought the brand and shut it down in 2003 after sales dropped dramatically. They decided to put more effort into Fosters instead.

Now, almost 15 years later, two German beer enthusiasts took it upon them and bought the brand from ‘Heineken’ in order to revive old times with “Follow the bear”, BUT with better beer. So, they travelled to Bavaria and tried to find the perfect brewery for making one of the best lagers you will ever taste. And so they did! In a small town close to Munich, they found a 4th generation brewery, which uses their own natural mineral water.

This gives the beer a super fresh taste to it. Furthermore, it is a slow brew (only 4 Bavarian breweries are accredited to do so, ‘Hofmeister’s’ brewery is one of those!). Normal beer is fermented for about 5 to 6 weeks. This one ferments extra cold for 7 to 8 weeks, which makes it possible to achieve a depth of taste and gentle carbonation many others just can’t.

After being successful in brewing a great new lager they decided to compete in the “Global beer masters challenge 2017”. Guess who won silver? Exactly. HOFMEISTER! Who would have thought? Then Hofmeister, a Bavarian “Helles”, won best lager of 2017 at the International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC), cementing its return after a 13-year absence from the market.

So, after all this very useful information, come down to the pub and try a pint of ‘Hofmeister’ … or 2,3,4…

See you there! Prost
